Who they are

JB Trenchless is a Melbourne supplier of directional drilling equipment and the consumables that keep it running: drill rods, reamers and tooling. Its customers are contractors across Australia, working on time-sensitive job sites. When one of them calls, they reach someone who knows the products and knows the customer.

Why an audit

General manager Cameron Balemi is technical and had already built in-house software of his own. He saw the potential in AI and wanted a structured way to find where it would pay off first.

He engaged Bosar for an AI Operational Audit.

What we did

Over five weeks we ran ten working sessions with the people who do the work across sales, warehouse and admin, each one a live screen-share of their real tools. The question was never “how does this work in theory?” but “show me yesterday’s orders and what happened to each one.”

Then we drew thirteen process maps, put a dollar figure on every opportunity and ranked them. We handed Cameron the draft before the results call. He printed all thirty pages. His verdict on the maps: “It is very accurate and reliable.”

The Business Brain

As part of the audit we built JB Trenchless a Business Brain: an AI assistant running on Claude, with secure, read-only access to the tools the business already uses. The general manager and the sales team use it to get insights from their own data faster. It is in pilot, and adoption is growing.

The blueprint

The audit identified AUD 322K a year in recoverable gross profit and set out a prioritised plan for recovering it. It builds on the Business Brain in three themes:

  1. 01

AI assistants, built on Claude, to make routine sales tasks easier and more reliable.

  2. 02

Call capture, so what the team learns in sales conversations becomes data for better sales decisions.

  3. 03

An extension of the in-house software, syncing data between systems automatically for more accurate inventory and less admin.

One principle runs through all of it: the existing systems hold the data, AI makes sense of it, and people bring the human touch and make the call.
